Our History
Before
Peaceful Crossings was ever made a reality, founder and Director, Jim
Meeker, had a vision to help challenged individuals since his childhood.
Steven Meeker
Jim had a young brother named Steven. At 10 years old, Steven was
diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his chest. During his times of
remission, Steven would run and climb trees. Often when Jim would come
home from work, he would find Steven high in the tree tops. He would
climb so high that Jim often couldn't find him when Steven would call
out to him. This climbing gave Steven great confidence during his
illness.
Jim also discovered the power of prayer during this time of Steven's
illness. Steven would often shake from his severe pain. Jim put his arm
on him and pray. The pain would subside and Steve would stop shaking.
Today, Peaceful Crossings emphasizes this same power of prayer.
The Dream was born
Eventually, Jim lost his brother. From that time, Jim had the idea of
using heights to help children and adults with sicknesses and handicaps
regain their confidence just as Steven did.
His ideas existed only as dreams until one day, his next-door
neighbor decided to give Jim the land down behind his house. It is a
large valley with a beautiful stream running thought it. This would
become the future location of Peaceful Crossings Adventure Ministries.
in 1980, Jim began bringing small groups in to do some simple climbing
and repelling.
In 1987, Jim added a 400-foot zip line that would become one of
Peaceful Crossings most popular attractions.
Financed independently, Jim and his wife Jean continued to add a
variety of elements. It gained popularity as scout troops, youth groups,
and church groups came to be challenged. All the while, Jim continued to
teach everyone the power of prayer and the importance of having a
relationship with Jesus Christ.
Miraculously, his other neighbor heard of what Jim was doing and gave
him land next to his property so that he could have more suitable
parking.
In 1997, Peaceful Crossings incorporated. Thousands of children and
adults have been challenged both physically and spiritually.
Currently, Peaceful Crossings has plans to expand to help war
veterans who have been badly injured and lost limbs by helping them
overcome their new handicaps.
